Naturopathic Medicine could be considered a distinct primary healthcare system that combines traditional and natural therapies with modern scientific information to stimulate the body's inherent healing capacity, and is based on six fundamental principles. Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) try to apply the least invasive approaches (1.first, do no harm), recognize the underlying causes of a health concern (2.identify and treat the root causes of disease), encourage the body to stimulate its self-healing processes through natural therapies (3.using the healing power of nature), educate and engage patients through their healing processes (4.NDs as teachers), consider different aspects of an individual, including physical, mental, and emotional (5.treat the whole person), and emphasize disease preventative strategies (6.focus on prevention). Naturopathic medicine therapies can be used alone or in conjunction with conventional medicine depending on individual health case.
